Once and a while a book comes around with such value, absorbable language, and actionable information, it becomes part of a “core” you’d use in a curriculum for creating a foundation for success. Impact Equation is such a book for being heard online. It’s widely applicable, but especially so for entrepreneurs.
I’ve included a video review, and what is more or less a transcript of that review below.

This video is a review of the book Impact Equation by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith. My name is Robert Granholm and I run a business providing technical support to newer online entrepreneurs as well as work as an IT Manager.
I think I’m generally the target market for this book, not because I know technology but because I’m a content creator, an “online citizen” and interested in being heard going into the future.
As mentioned in the book, we’ve never been in a time like this in history, where we can be producers of content as much as we are consumers. Impact Equation takes this into account first hand and provides not just practical information, but principles and light hearted prompting to get with it.
I’m giving the book a positive review for various reasons but here are the 3 most compelling.
1. It’s written in a way that it feels like a trusted mentor is giving you advice for the future you can put into practice regularly, advice that’s more like principles to build on, vs actions that will be outdated or outdone. There’s plenty of references to the current systems and things we use today, but the emphasis is on concepts that transcend. If you know anything of Chris or Julien you know you can trust the information. If you’re familiar with Chris’s blog and have read his content, it literally feels like the book may have been written for you.
2. It’s action oriented and teaches through stories. The chapters give you tangible measures, and actions to assess what you’re doing to have your voice heard, trusted, and re-blasted, which essentially their tagline, being heard vs making noise. The instruction is written in plain speak, and leaves you at the end of each chapter, at least for myself seeing exactly where I could make a change in my social media interactions, on my webpage, in my product, or my communications, meaning I could easily translate it to my situation.
3. It’s principle based, meaning it’s not reliant on technology that is here now. I run a technical support business for newer online entrepreneurs, I know the technical ends, and the workings behind them and love customer support, I was hoping I wasn’t going to be told about a specific tool, or plugin over and over and I wasn’t.
When you boil it down to it’s core, we’re trending toward a creation society, a more entrepreneurial world, and if you want success, you’re going to need the skills to be heard, and I think this book delivers on priming you for just that. It’s a great read, go get a copy.
