How To Properly Clean the Interior of a Car as Per Robert Granholm

You can learn a lot about someone by the way they clean, and what they clean, and if they clean at all.

I have always loved cleaning my car, I likely got this love from my brother, and have made it my own in my adulthood.

I find myself perpetually disappointed when others clean my car, save a few detail shops. It’s expected I guess, compared to the masses, I have certain standards.

It’s because of this, I’d like to educate the world on how to properly clean the interior of a car, or rather, go over a few pivotal areas that cannot be over looked less you want to be generally useless in life and endanger your car with your car-eless cleaning.

I hope in educating the world, the overall level of cleaning competence will be elevated.

Read this with a grain of salt, I do have passion for this, but am saying it in a somewhat self insulting snarky tone, I realize I’m talking about cleaning a car and do very much mean every word, really.

 

The basic materials involved may vary, terry clothes are preferable to most other items as they don’t absorb everything you spray on to them, and do a fine job cleaning. Seen here you have a handy and powerful mobile vacuum, spray bottle of water, Armor All, and glass wipes, these are all critical and cannot be forgotten.

Here we have the front seat adjustment handle. This important and often used piece of hardware is seen immediately by any passengers and must be wiped! Must!

That place in between the cup holder and your chair. It’s a crumb magnet to be sure, and often the first place I look when traveling in another’s vehicle to see what they really think of their car. Left un-vacuumed, french fries are known to grow down here.

The dashboard console area must stay pristine at all times, you’ll look here rapidly during every drive, dust and dirt must not be found here, and in fact will make you a horrible driver if it is.

That space between your car seat, and the car door, usually only half an inch wide, is another fundamental area that can quickly lead to a decrepit car situation. The long nozzle of a vacuum is your only solution here, and must be used with vigilance to avoid head shaking and disdain.

 

The door buttons. They are used daily, but never given the attention they truly deserve. These are often tricky as their shape may require special tools such as the que-tip, or the ever important paper towel twisted into a point. Proper function of the windows relies on clean door buttons, there’s no other way to say it.

 The seat crevice. Overlook at your peril, these tightly hidden fibers are the crack of your car, and you don’t want to mess with crack.

 

The all important stereo console. The eye piece of the inside of a car, without aggressive attention, taunts you, collecting dust almost instantly and shouting to the world that you just don’t care about anything and may lose your job at any moment. I don’t know about you, but I keep a terry cloth in my glove box at all times for this needy piece of equipment.

 The end all be all of proper car cleanliness, the dashboard. Neglecting the dashboard is known to haunt you in your sleep, cause lung issues, blindness, and scorn from all that see you. Dashboard cleanliness is next to godliness!
