I started to notice that if I bought cheap novel things, I was more likely to take an action that was tangent to that thing. Example, I bought new compressions socks, I went running more this week to wear the socks despite it being 32 degrees.
What I Learned
I learned that there may be a few other areas that this hack of sorts could work and started to experiment, such as buying envelopes with the purpose of mailing out thank you’s to clients and friends. It took a little while but I found that the envelopes sitting there, got to me just enough to have me work on getting those letters out, which will no doubt have an impact. I wonder what else can be gamed this way, and of course you have to manage your spend for this, but when the trade off is productivity, it’s going to likely be worth it.
What Worked
What worked was being aware enough to catch that I happened to be having an incredibly productive or “win filled” week and asking myself why I thought that was. I’m sure there are other factors but that stuck out.
What Didn’t Work
Nothing too apparent that didn’t work. I still got overwhelmed with all I set out to do, working on my monthly specific, year long, and repeat habit goals…but nothing monumentally failed. IT Arsenal has had a busy week, but all with current or past clients. Actually, come to think of it, I’m currently working on three past client projects who haven’t done work with me in a while, which is a huge blessing. Two malware instances, which stinks, and one slider/update break and potential site revamp. I love that ITA keeps ticking along purely on the work I’ve done on it in the past, minimal if any “advertising” however it maintains what a level that currently, with a newborn second child, I am comfortable with.
