"What your freedom business could be is not something to get paralyzed about." So true. Probably one of the biggest mistakes a business owner can make is succumbing to paralysis by analysis. It is definitely possible to over think a problem, which can in turn create more and bigger problems due to lack of action. I agree that it's important to just keep moving and then correct course on the go. The business and business name will fall out once you start moving.

Thanks for the reminder about the 37 Signals book, I have read recommendations on other blogs as well. I really need to check it out and plan to do so now.

Wow, That was a phenomenally detailed post.

I agree with your "not allowed" ideas. Generic ideas are too easy to copy and probably too difficult to make money from.

Creating original products and services makes a lot more sense to me. However, I haven't had much success yet with my own sites.

I'll be interested to read the follow up to this post. I think lifestyle design is a great example. You can find a lot of bloggers in the area of lifestyle design, good interaction on the blogs and several products (ebooks/books mostly) but it's hard to know if they're making any money off them. I imagine this is what you'll get into next?!

Walter, thanks so much. I certainly wouldn't consider you a newbie as I'm impressed with your community and your blog. You have some good insights and your commitment shown in your responses to all 33 of the comments left on one the posts I looked at of yours...was inspiring. Glad I have something to offer here, I hope that continues as I continue! Always feel free to share your experience.

Exactly, there's nothing to lose and everything to gain. Information products are the ultimate in my opinion. Once you've made it, you have it for life. It's like a novel or recorded song.

I has the potential to make you money for the rest of your life.

Sure. Unless I know the product, have used it, and can speak about it intelligently, I'm not going to try and make money off it. I believe lifestyle design is against peddling wares to make a buck, and on top of that, it's just not easily sustainable/manageable....you'll always need to come up with some new trick to make another buck. I've gone that route, made a few rounds of $100-1000 dollars...but their empty accomplishments. Sustainable passive income is the goal here, so we're stuck with creating value....it's okay...it's for the better.

Yeah, the mock up totally is "in the works". It's actually what I'm working on this week in pieces...getting something up fast is the key...gets things moving.

It very well could end up being free, and depending on the ultimate solutions of the ebook, I might just stick to the affiliates of the services I find and recommend as best backup options (just like you mentioned). Hopefully I can create enough value in it being dead simple that it justifies a price tag, but that'll be part of the experiment, and I'll find out more of those details next post/next week.

Hopefully reading the salespage, confusion is eliminated. I think I need it needs a new catch line though, you might have just solidified that.

Can you elaborate on why you're totally against a google ads/clickbank combo if you think the product adds value?

Robert -

I'm guessing the mock up page is still in the works...?

Do you think the product you're trying to sell would work better as free information on a website. And then you could monitize the website by making affiliate commissions off of the online backup systems you'd recommend. (that might be against your rules though)

I'm the ultimate optimist when it comes to creating muses so I'm not trying to discourage. I'm obviously in the beginnings of making my own products as well.

I might just be a little confused about what I'd actually get if I ordered.
