Resources and Summary: WordPress styled websites…and a lot of reflection on the grind of working on your business and/vs. in your business.

jan 24th night

created a contacts group in Gmail of people i’ve reached out to and who have showed interest in my relaunch and helping. they’ve all replied and given me good feedback. gotta use that as fuel and pump everything out now…make sure to give my work to them free, and follow up so can return the favor…

capture who interacts with you, treat them well.

still recovering from a horrible flu and can’t remember when i last had a good work rhythm. time to get back on the horse.

i’ve realized the despite my best efforts, after looking at my e-mail i’m actually still carrying on many more mini projects or requests than i thought i was while “tricking” myself into thinking i was working mostly on IT Arsenal. Continue reading →

summary: video editing for videos in your product launch, mindmaps, salespages, personal marriage updates

navigation installed on each page of the WP Trainer service and video made for customizing your logo or header in WordPress which I think people are really going to appreciate.

i ended up using screenflow to record the video, not screenr.com and i’m glad i did. i screwed up half way through and could easily re-record and paste over the bad part with it. screenflow doesn’t just allow you to record your screen, or audio, i can record your video camera in an overlay, and puts the recorded video in a timeline when you’re ready to edit and finalize the video. absolutely the best desktop app for recording. if you’re creating a product, it’s top notch. in screenr.com’s defense though, they’re tool is free, entirely online, and super easy to share. just more suited to quick videos that don’t need any polish.

i started looking for a really easy way to create a custom text into for the video’s i’m creating because part of my feedback for the video’s were to make it look more professional, sit up, wear a collar, get better lighting, and an intro. so i looked into iMovie ’11 Continue reading →

What if your niche was a neighborhood?

suburbs ink What if your niche was a neighborhood?

If your niche was a neighborhood and your business was a bulding on the block, what would it look like? I think mine would be clean and cool looking on the outside, maybe some nice shutters and good parking. On the inside though, the walls would be bare, the shelves empty, and the tables chair-less! Does your house look the same?

Somehow I’ve erected a house, walked around the neighborhood of online entrepreneurs, I’ve talked with them, dug into some of their hangouts, befriended a few with my ideas and even built a product! I love this town. I’ve shared a few visions like many of you have but still jostle around. It’s surprisingly easy to glaze over execution while exploring entrepreneur town. Correction, it’s surprisingly easy to glaze over execution forever while in entrepreneur town. Get out. Continue reading →

whew, the vacation time and company paris travel is now over. i’m on the plane back home and it’s clear to me you can’t work on a wordpress website while offline no matter how many elements you try to download. i’ve been using MarsEdit which is an offline blogging program, but without being able to preview things live, and go through the process of my product now that I have a working framework i’m left with only the ability to draw up rough text anxad the mental beginnings of the pages that need to happen.

after this long break i’m super eager to get creating again. i can sense the feelings of being fed up with little public materials to show, by the end of next week, the three services have to get up on the site in beta so i can see it live and get some feedback, set up the payment processes and videos. roll on. • slept really late…12pm
  • read more 4 hour body, made more notes
  • set up hdtestvideo.com and installed wordpress theme.
  • customized theme for uses, scheduled time to come back.
  • opened up mindmap and started creating the tiers of service blog page.
  • used omnigraffle and exported elements out of it for blog use. works amazingly well
  • pulled free, awesome graphics for use from graffletopia.com, which are stencils for omnigraffle
  • asked mars dorian for quick look, got feedback on adding some intro text….

with the initial options page done, it’s time to go deeper. the train me page salespage, orientation video. quicknote on SEO as well, when first building the whole structure of your site, and flow of these service pages, or core information pages…it’s better to just get it up so it exists then worry about optimization. that can be done later, or you can outsource someone to do it easily.

although these are super specific nitty gritty details. it’s important to track these and remember this is what it takes to launch a product, or sell an expertise.

page creation, visuals, sales copy, creating links, linking with payment gateways so people can pay you. Continue reading →

Action Notes Relaunch 12/3 – 12/11

sat in omnigraffle and created a breakdown mindmap of plausible actions and details for the wordpress websites set up. it all starts with a few sentences and a mindmap. the process is hard to mentally “get into” but fun and provides a sense of accomplishment, plus this can now be reviewed and vetted by friends and people.

Omigraffle is great, and omnigraffle stencils abound at graffletopia.com. websites that can potentially build the same thing.

an interesting concept i’m going to play with because omnigraffle is so versatile and powerful is using the mindmap in the actual selling or pitch process. I can export my mindmap with image links and as HTML…which means I can create a version that is used for the actual buying process leading people to a sales page or capture… Continue reading →

Dismantling the Mental Battle of Online Business

many couldn’t possibly understand what I’m about the explain unless you were/are an online entrepreneur with a day job or financially free to a certain extent. you may be there or a few steps back but can see yourself there.

i deal with an interesting frustration, dancing back and forth between having the toys i want, a great blessed life i’m spoiled to try an enhance and wanting the time, freedom, and quality of life thats more readily available when you don’t trade time for money, or do so less often compared to creating value that scales and brings in income. Yes, I’m talking about creating a business or having a stream of income that is easily managed, maintained, launched, not grinded out daily. i’m at this sudo success point and it’s confusing and hard to break through and continue to create.

Action Notes on Relaunch 11/28 – 12/1

These notes are the first of many, which will detail actions taken often in literal jotting down notes form with some asides on review. Purpose: to keep me accountable, record action, and learn from. The next few posts will catch up on last month and a half.

Resources: WufooApple PagesBlogcastFM

  • sat down with survey results taken from Wufoo which I promoted on my site for last month and throughout Twitter. results will be used in relaunch to spread and share on site as resource for fellow online entrepreneurs.
  • created report i could learn from and share with others, found immediately usable data for what services to offer on relaunch
  • created mindmap from results report for how to share and display the products i want to present
  • scribbled down rough draft of what it would look like to click on a “get help with” button on website.
  • created tiers or “plans” for each service offering. catering to the two ways i can serve my audience. train them, or do it for them. train them is favored, and involves less trading time for money Continue reading →

Accomplishing Big Goals through Inception

inception still1 Accomplishing Big Goals through Inception

does it seem like accomplishing something big requires seclusion, a feeling of…”I need to go into my cave where no one can touch me”, a “bubble” where “work” feels like creation…avoiding others, avoiding distraction…

great minds, big players often disappear for lengths of time…and then resurface with something to present or offer the world and their target….a book, a product, an event…musicians tour or release a cd…and then they GO AWAY. Continue reading →

The Long Stage of Business Wonder, Trial and Error

life its all trial error The Long Stage of Business Wonder, Trial and Error

Resources: Influences from The Art of Non Conformity book and blog.

I’ve spent the last month or so in an inquiry about identifying my ideal customer, how to solve their pains and how to change my approach to be more relevant to them…to grow, sell, provide value, earn money. You may have too. Another step in the dance, but along with it another revelation.

There’s a big difference between deciding what your target market is and really being with them. It took me long enough just to settle myself into something as niche (and not even that much so) as online entrepreneurs and discover I still don’t have enough information to be a “must have” in their life in terms of services and products. You have to really dig in when you’re at the bottom, sometimes repeat the same lesson over and over to figure out what’s next.

Developing your business requires a long stage of wonder, and a lot of trial and error.

A lot of the people out there with a following, the people you’re reading HAVE A FOLLOWING, they can just poll their followers, create a stir with their existing platform, team up with a similarly leveled individuals, write small yet powerful reflective posts and guess what, more people will find interest in them, buy their suggested wares and use them, share them, ect. They’ve already been through the first few passes of wonder, trial and error, they are no stranger to execution.

The wonder part looks like e-mails asking questions of your current audience, your entrepreneurial peers, running surveys, hiring those more experienced to chime in, what feel like fruitless and countless internet searches, design tweaks working on yourself to find focus, asking yourself if you can do (insert questionable service) all day every day, coming back to the drawing board. E-mails and configurations. Thinking, well I may as well try “this”. About a million web service sign ups. A few big wins, a few soft launches or entries into something here or there and I’m sure much more.

The time limit is different for everyone too, some might do this for a month and take flight, others, years. Others don’t get up, because it’s tricky doing your own thing. I don’t blame them.

The more you dig in though, the more you feel you were walking around indoors with sunglasses on and you can now take them off.

The muddied water of knowing you have something to provide but not knowing the best way to provide it is such a mind job.

Well, guess what, it is all of those things, but frustratingly enough, it’s also non of those things. It’s the fight, the dance, the struggle and what you learn through it. You’re mix of revelations won’t be like the other guys. Your experiences will allow you to grab the next rung of the ladder. Business is like life.

So What to Do

I can’t perfectly describe it, but there comes an understanding that you’ve probably had several times before on what to do next. It becomes clear. When you’ve had enough of these (not saying I have), you eventually hit a stage where it’s easier to choose your next successful action. I’m sure it has a specific number of sales, or followers, or hours of training and usage of particular services, but that’s not the point. It’s working through it, continuing to improve. Hard work.

I’m going to describe the actions I’ve taken to get this business as the project continues, what business hurdles I overcame and how, but first I wanted to wax and wane on the fact that it’s not my solutions that will “do it” for you, but it’s your perseverance to keep figuring this thing out that will really define success.
