i’ve been working on my habits lately, looking at ones i have consciously made, subconsciously have, and ones to develop.

i write out my tasks in a “today” note each day, and have been encouraged to add value to them lately. a task in itself isn’t worth much, but the intent behind them makes all the difference.

in the past two weeks my pastor has talked on intent, and purpose a lot, my notes are below, but it got me thinking about my habits and if i have any in my faith.

i decided i wanted to try and build in a reminder to think about intent, instead of just mindlessly following my task list, which is something i never have any problem filling up.

oddly enough, constantly adding “for the Lord” after each of my seemingly mundane tasks gives them new light, so much so that i’ve found myself renewed to complete the tasks or find more value in them. here’s what it looks like on a random day…

the task “plex – tv show catchup/clean for the Lord”  sounds funny, but it colors what tv I might delete or watch or how much time i should spend on the task. for me, that color ads something positive.

i’m strengthening my muscle to bring my intent, my faith, my God around with me everywhere, something i personally value highly.

2013-01-30 – Ecclesiastes

  • wisdom: pleasure without purpose destroys, pleasure under purpose satisfies
  • life … enjoy it, make good choices, be satisfied, follow god
  • david foster Wallace graduation speech
  • hope is so powerful
  • answer to futility is perhaps within us?
  • living for self is futile, living ethically but not god brings despair [we aren’t enough], forgiven & in relationship with god, we find meaning, hope, faith
  • without a divine law giver we’re left up to ourselves
  • if we kill off the notion of God creates a devaluation of life
  • listen to wisdom, really listen to wisdom
  • so teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom ps. 90:12

2012-12-30

  • seek first god, what he thinks (purpose) – confess your indifference THEN start building X (time, talent, pleasure, discipleship)
  • give thought to your actions, consider your purpose or your efforts for progress and productivity will be fruitless, feeling of despair will be in everything
